Sunday, December 6th, 2009

This is a great article to print out and use while planning your trip.

Before You Leave Travel Packing Reminders:

Pick up dry cleaning and finish any last minute errands
Start packing what’s on your travel pack list – Make sure luggage is marked
Double check all documents…make copies if necessary
Relax, you should have everything…
Recheck your travel pack list and you’ll be fine.

Here are a few more tips to live by…

Carry-on Items:

Be sure you carry on valuables, cameras, film, documents, wallet (money in general), coupons, tickets, itenerary (with all pertinent information), brochures, maps, guides, reading materials, baby stuff, kids stuff, medications you must have, and anything in particular that you find important. If you think you should carry-on, then do. Don’t be like Focker.

Medications:

Have your meds in the original bottles, have doctor letters if necessary. Remember airlines are scetchy about certain items (if you fly).

If you drive having this information is important if you get pulled over and asked by a cop.

Film: We recommend you buy a digital camera or camcorder. Film is a pain and can get damaged easily.

I know that may be an added expense, but if you shop around, you can find a great deal. We just want to ensure you retain the priceless memories of your Florida trip.

If you must have film, our best recommendation is buy it when you get there. Pack it wisely (in your purse for instance), or develop it before you return home.

Pack Light:

You can check if the hotel has a laundry service. Plan ahead. Make a travel pack list, check it twice. Wait- isn’t that a song? Just kidding. Bad humor, it’s that doing a travel pack list can get boring.

But, it is important. Anyway, just pack intelligently. Take some extra money to shop if you absolutely forget something. Learn to fold, be creative, and lay everything on your travel pack list out.

As an idea, the two of us take a big piece of luggage and one smaller one. Then we carry a backback, small carry-on bag, or briefcase and we fit everything we need from our travel pack list.

Some of the major things to remember to pack include, money, documents, clothing, toiletries, electronics, things to keep you busy, other personal/individual items, and of course the kids (if you have them).

This is just a portion of what to remember. There are lists available online to use and check off items/things to do as you plan your vacation.

Travel Tips For Packing Luggage – Packing Tips For Your Vacation

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

Before you head out on your next vacation, here are some travel tips for packing luggage.

If you have babies in diapers, pack an extra suitcase just with diapers. As you use them up on your trip, you can have some extra space for items you may purchase.

To quickly spot your luggage at baggage claim, buy the most obnoxious loud color you can find. This will help you in two ways. One, you will be able to easily find your bags, and two, anyone thinking to steal someone’s luggage will not pick such an obvious color.

Another tip to easily find your luggage is to tie a bright ribbon on the handle or wrap it around your bags.

If you are flying, do not pack any sharp objects into your carry-on luggage unless you never want to see the item again. It will be permanently donated to the airport.

If anyone asks to take your luggage, be sure they are who they say they are. Ask for identification. Thieves sometimes go around impersonating tour guides.

It’s a good idea to put an emergency set of clothes and toiletries into your carry-on just in case your bags get lost. But no sharp objects, don’t forget.

You may think a wheeled bag looks geeky as opposed to a nice shoulder bag when it comes to carry-ons, but after traipsing all over the airport with your heavy bag, especially if it contains such things as a laptop or other electronics, you will be thankful for the wheeled geeky carry-on!

On an airplane, sometimes the storage area under the seats is narrower in the aisle seat. So for more storage, get a window or middle seat.

For more travel tips for packing luggage, try to pack only what you love. If the clothes have been hanging in your closet for months and you never wear them, what makes you think you will wear them on a trip? This is a mistake I have made countless times. So stick with what you love, you’ll travel lighter and actually use what you take along with you.

It is worthwhile to purchase quality luggage. I know it’s tempting to cut corners by purchasing your luggage at a discount store, but in the long run it will pay for itself. You’ll make it to destination after destination with all your belongings intact.

Don’t forget to check with your airline for their particular weight limits for luggage. All the travel tips in the world won’t be helpful if you are packing 75 pounds of clothes into your luggage when the weight limit is 50 pounds.

Remember that you can usually do some laundry at your hotel or travel destination. This may help you pack a little lighter.

To avoid wrinkles, try rolling your clothes instead of folding.

Pack some comfortable shoes, or better yet, wear them and pack plenty of comfy socks. Especially if you plan to do a lot of walking.

Don’t forget your prescription medications as well as a list of them which you should keep with you.

Don’t put valuables into checked luggage if possible. Keep them with you or in your carry-on bags.

I hope you can use the travel tips for your next trip and be better prepared when packing your luggage.

Travel Packing Tips For International Traveler

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Whether it’s a business or a pleasure trip, packing for trips can be confusing. Stop cranking up your stress levels! Instead take a look at the simple steps below that will help solve your problems:

1. If you are traveling out of country, make sure that you carry all your important documents (passport, passport photographs and other important travel documents)

2. Do not forget to pack the first-aid box

3. Divide your bank credit cards, debit cards, cash and traveler’s check in different places in your bag. So in any case you get robbed, you will not be stranded for cash

4. Determine the luggage weight before you start packing, in order to avoid excess fee towards excess baggage

5. Determine how many days you are going on a vacation and accordingly, you can plan on having two different looks per day i.e. one for the daytime and one for the evening. You can mix and match different combination of clothes to produce different looks. You can wear scarves, jacket, accessories etc in order to make it look different

6. Try to carry non-wrinkle clothes. Even if you spend the entire day in the same outfit, you need not worry. Also, you will get rid of the hassle of ironing and re-ironing your clothes all the time

7. Avoid carrying clothes in shades of white or any color that is light, as it will not help you hide the dirt/stain

8. Determine the weather condition of the particular destination you are traveling to and pack your clothes accordingly. For example, you would definitely not need a sweatshirt for a place where the weather is warm and sunny

9. Carry two or three pairs of footwear (depending on the luggage limit). Ensure that the footwear you carry will match all kinds of clothes. Also, if you want everything else in your bag to stay clean and odor free, pack them in a Ziploc plastic bag

10. Keep aside your toiletries in a leak proof bag

11. Identify what kind of activities you will be engaged in during the trip. Accordingly, you need to carry the right kind of clothes

12. Start planning your travel list by making a note of the list of things to do like places to visit, where you can go shopping etc

13. Set aside your clothes and plan the execution of your trip few days before the travel, in order to prevent last minute hassle

A Travel Packing Checklist Will Help You Remember The Essentials

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Depending on the trip and the circumstances you may have a little or a lot of time to pack. Nevertheless, without a travel packing checklist you are bound to forget something (like your toothbrush. I am notorious for forgetting to pack mine). Gear Up 4 Travel features a concise packing checklist breaking it down into the “do not leave home without this” to “some great additions, if you have room”. And as a bonus to the travel packing checklist Gear Up 4 Travel features hot tips to improve your packing strategies. Please keep in mind that additional items should be added to this list if you are going on a specialized trip or holiday such as a ski trip where you must include winter attire. Please modify this travel packing checklist as needed.

Don’t leave home without these items. (Don’t risk losing these items by packing them in your check-in luggage. It is in your best interest to pack all of these items in your carry on.)

* Passport/Visa

* Car rental info

* Insurance health

* Lodging info

* Travel Insurance

* Foreign currency

* Airline/travel tickets

* Medication

* Reservation information

* Emergency phone or calling card

* Wallet with Credit Cards

* Eyeglasses

Below are the basics that may seem so obvious but can be overlooked.

CLOTHING

* Clothing

* Socks

* Jacket

* Suits

* Shoes

* Sunglasses

* Swimsuit

* Undergarments

* Sleepwear

* Pants

TOILETRIES

HOT TIPS:

* Make a pile of clothes you’d like to take with you, and then cut it in half when packing it into your luggage. Most of us pack clothes that we won’t even wear.

* Always pack your jewelry, medication, travel documents, and all other valuables in your carry on luggage.

* Pack your shoes in an old pair of socks to prevent your other belongings from getting soiled

* Roll casual wear such as sweaters, and pj’s to fit into small spaces

* When traveling with large items such as skis, golf clubs ask the airlines if they offer special containers as a service.

* Pack clothes that you can mix and match

* When traveling with a partner store one of your partner’s outfits in your suitcase and one of yours in theirs. If your checked luggage is misplaced your partner’s luggage will have an outfit for you to wear until your luggage is located.
